Environment Commission
FETAV Environment Commission is carrying out its activities for the 2008-2009 period under the responsibility of Board members Seyran SUCU and Keramettin YILMAZ, with Architect Ahmet KİZEN acting as Chairman.
Decisions taken and the work programme drawn up during the meetings of the Commission are as follows:
- Efforts will be made to enlarge the Continuous Agriculture Project, instigated by our Foundation in 2001, to be applicable throughout the town. For this purpose, work will be carried out for the marketing of organic products in coordination with the Town Directorship of Agriculture, Chamber of Agriculture and the School of Advanced Education.
- Further endeavours will be made to contribute to educational activities organized to enhance the Recycling of Solid Wastes, which is carried out successfully in our town. Similarly, we shall continue to support such projects as the collection of used frying fats and batteries, developing the habit of using string bags and paper bags and collection of seeds
- Endeavours will be made to natural products grown in our town to become trademarks, especially for olive oil; coordination will be maintained with the Forestry Department in training people for the contribution of the mastic tree, which is plentiful in our region, to our economy. Furthermore, application will be made to the Forestry Department for the allocation of a land where a forest will be planted by our Foundation for the growth of almost trees and aromatic vegetation.
- The Association for Research on Birds will be approached for the realization of the "Project for the Birds' Paradise at the Natural Park of Çalış", and a "Wetlands Administration Plan" will be prepared, supported by the Ministry of Foresty. Within the framework of this work, educational programmes will be prepared for balanced utilization, landscape, plantation, watch-tower, hedging, bird-watching, organization of training courses for guides on natural riches and tours; and research will be made to benefit from the funds of EU.
- Work will be instigated for the promotion of products friendly to nature and to encourage their use and exhibitions will be organized.
- The Caretta Caretta Project at Çaliş, carried out by the Association for the Preservation of Nature, and activities of the TEMA Foundation and Association of Clean Sea (TURMEPA) will be supported.
- A project will be instigated for the research on the rich flora and fauna in our town, establishment of endemic plants and the publication of a book on these subjects, with the contribution of elite botanical scientists of the Advanced School and our country.
- On special days such as the "World Day of Wetlands" and the "World Environment Day', coordination will be made with governmental and non-governmental organizations in our town with our Foundation playing host to certain activities.
